Traditional Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing used for thousands of years to balance and harmonize life energy. Acupuncture is used to treat illness as well as to anticipate and prevent disease. Acupuncturists focus on determining the fundamental causes of a person's difficulty, taking the whole person into account, including body, mind and spirit.
Acupuncture is based on natural laws which describe the movement of life energy (called Chi or Qi) in nature and in the body. This life energy flows through the body along precise pathways. When the Chi in the body is balanced and flows properly, we are healthy. When the Chi is imbalanced, we experience distress and illness. Acupuncturists are trained to detect these imbalances in the Chi. Through the use of hair-thin disposable needles inserted into the acupuncture points or the use of heat at those points (moxabustion), energy is brought into greater harmony which assists your body's ability to heal itself.
In addition to its function as preventive medicine, acupuncture is often effective in treating physical conditions such as arthritis, asthma, back pain, headaches, high blood pressure, gynecological and fertility problems, rheumatism, sciatica, and ulcers. Some people receive help with emotional conditions, including anxiety, depression, panic attacks, confusion or despair. Still others may feel unwell in themselves but cannot specify exactly what is wrong. By balancing the body's energy, acupuncture is useful in these diverse situations.
